Gap year travellers advised to budget
26 October 2009 07:55
Those planning on jetting off on a gap year may find that the best piece of advice they can listen to is to make sure they budget for their trip.
Product director at STA Travel Ian Swain said that in order to work out how much a trip may end up costing, people should plan and research their gap year adventure efficiently.
"You need to work out how much you will need on a daily basis for food, accommodation and any activities and then think about the number of days you are away," he said.
When budgeting for such a trip, gap year travellers may also find it useful to think about how much they need to spend on backpacker travel insurance.
As well as this, should travellers be planning to "take on every activity in the adventure capital of the world in New Zealand", they may need to invest in a sports travel insurance policy that covers activities such as bungee jumping or glacier hiking.
