Mozambique 'is a great destination for an African gap year'
29 April 2010 07:52
Anyone heading to Africa on a gap year should make sure they take in Mozambique, as it is vastly different to other areas of the continent.
This is the advice of travel guide author Philip Briggs, who said that not only is it relatively cheap and quite easy to navigate, but the country is also very interesting.
He pointed out that Mozambique's Portuguese heritage makes it feel different culturally to other African destinations, while its lengthy Indian Ocean coastline also makes it suitable for those on the lookout for a beachside destination.
"Most gap year types would visit it as part of a longer African trip, possibly combined with South Africa, Malawi, Zambia and/or Tanzania," Philip advised.
You could therefore have a great excuse to extend your travelling time if you're heading over to South Africa to watch the World Cup this summer!
However, don't forget to have all your injections and buy travel insurance before you go.
We can offer specialist long-stay cover for backpackers and gap year travellers with premiums from as little as £25.
This also covers a vast array of sports that you may wish to try during your adventures, so give World First a call to find out more.
