Vietnam home to 'Asia's Best Beach Resort'
Vietnam is now officially home to Asia's Best Beach Resort, it has been announced.
The Nam Hai resort, which overlooks the South China Sea, was handed the title at the Travel Trade Gazette's 2008 awards.
The award recognised the Nam Hai's five-star facilities, which include a state-of-the-art spa, gourmet cuisine and a number of recreational activities, all located in the vicinity of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Caroline Phillips, a product manager of Explore adventure travels, identified some of Vietnam's other attractions: "Some of the best places to visit are Hanoi, for its street markets, colonial architecture and the Ho Chi Minh experience (museum and mausoleum)"
She also identified Sapa as ideal for an authentic cultural experience and Hoi-an as a laid back historic town with great food.
Data from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam revealed that international arrivals into the country for the first nine months of 2008 numbered 3.3 million.
