Jamaica announces new culinary trail
03 June 2009 06:15
Travel insurance customers heading to Jamaica may like to try out the nation's new culinary treasure highlights.
Jamaica Tourist Board has created the Jerk Trail - a list of the island's top restaurants serving the country's most renowned food.
According to the organisation, Jerk is the meal created when a meat is marinated for hours in a mix of thyme, scallion, peppers and pimento seeds, before being cooked slowly over an outdoor pit lined with pimento wood.
"The low heat allows the meat to cook slowly, retaining the natural juices while becoming infused with the flavour of the wood," it said in a statement.
Brits heading to the Caribbean island have ten of the best restaurants to choose from, including the Supreme Jerk Centre in Negril.
Four of the top ten are located in or around Ocho Rios - travellers should look out for Ultimate Jerk Centre, Scotchie's, Ocho Rios Jerk Centre and Lyming at Walkerswood.
Meanwhile, British Airways recently announced a new, twice weekly service from London Gatwick to Sangster International Airport, Montego Bay.
