NYC, Amsterdam top city break poll

New York and Amsterdam are the top destinations for holidaymakers looking for a city break in 2008, according to one travel firm.

Holidaylettings.co.uk has found that shorter city breaks will increasingly complement Britons' main holiday each year, with 38 per cent of its respondents admitting they would take two short breaks (three to five nights) as well as their main holiday.

And the survey found that New York tops the bill as the most desired destination, thanks in no small part to the strength of the pound in the US.

However, other cities making the top ten include other far-flung destinations, such as Cairo and Sydney.

"Destinations that in 2008 might be a city break, may in 2009 or beyond become week or fortnight long holiday destinations, if not holiday home locations for some potential investors," commented Ross Elder, managing director of holidaylettings.co.uk.

And experts point out that anyone looking to take more than one holiday in the new year could consider an annual travel insurance policy, which covers all trips in a certain period.
