Canaries still favourite for UK sun-seekers

The Canary Islands are still the most popular destination for British holidaymakers over the winter months, a new poll has found.

Research by one flight comparison website has found that the Canary Island of Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria are still the favourites for Britons looking for some winter sun.

Dubai is now the fourth favourite, while the Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh is in tenth place.

Others making the top ten include far flung destinations such as Bangkok, Cape Town, Orlando and Barbados, along with the stunning island of Goa.

Cheapflights general manager Francesca Ecsery said: "January is a great time to grab a bargain. Flight sales are everywhere so travellers have the choice between thousands of destinations at a very low cost.

"And the end of the holiday season brings on the January Blues which, coupled with this unpleasantly wet weather, makes it a very popular time of year to search for travel."

Travel insurance is an essential part of any holiday, but those heading away over winter and planning a summer trip can also benefit from annual travel insurance or multi-trip travel insurance for more than one holiday.
