Portugal to host Masters Golf Tournament
The prestigious Masters Golf Tournament will tee-off in Portugal's Algarve later this month.
Heralded as one of the most important golfing events on the PGA European Tour, the tournament will commence on October 16th, running until the 19th.
Competitors in the Masters will include the European Tour's current leader, Robert Karlsson and British golfers Lee Westwood, Oliver Wilson and Graeme McDowell.
A statement from the Portuguese Tourist Board read: "In hosting such a prominent tournament, Portugal has reinforced its international status as a major golfing destination.
"This is thanks to the quality of its golf courses … as well as world-class expertise in sporting events … and great weather all year round."
Portugal attracts around 300,000 golfers every year to its 75 courses, almost half of which are located in the Algarve.
A travel writer for Observer newspaper earlier this week praised Sri Lanka was a "wonderfully exotic" family holiday destination.
