Rio ideal for New Year's Eve reveller
23 December 2009 13:13
The Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro has been voted one of the best places in the world to celebrate new year.
According to holiday website sunshine.co.uk, the city is the fourth best place to bring in 2010, after party places including New York, London and Sydney.
Commenting on the poll, travel editor at Lonely Planet Tom Hall said that celebrating the new year in Rio would be "a tremendous amount of fun".
"It's probably somewhere where it's a little easier to join in the party than in other cities where you can sometimes be on the outside looking in," he went on to explain.
Tourists may also find the city welcoming and ideal if they are searching for "wild" nightlife, the travel expert said.
Figures from the International Air Transport Association showed that in October this year, Latin American carriers saw significant increases in demand for air travel.
