Travel afar for good value, Brits advised
15 March 2010 07:54
A good-value holiday could be had if you are prepared to travel a little further afield than normal, one expert has said.
Frances Tuke of ABTA - The Travel Association said that long-haul holidays are increasingly offering better value for money because of the current exchange rates, plus they are more likely to be developing nations where the cost of living is cheaper.
Speaking in response to Kuoni's list of top five long-haul destinations for 2010 - which included the US, the Maldives, Thailand, Egypt and Sri Lanka - Frances said: "All of those destinations are much cheaper when it comes to spending."
"Pretty much every destination [on the list] is good for us because the quality [and] the price of living is cheaper," she added.
If you're planning to travel long-haul instead of to European destinations this year, don't forget to check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website to see if you need to take any extra precautions, such as having vaccinations.
