Trip cancellation an 'important facet of travel insurance'
06 April 2009 06:51
Holidaymakers planning spring and summer trips abroad have been urged to remember the importance of family holiday insurance.
According to travel expert Ed Perkins, people should consider taking out trip or holiday cancellation cover with their travel insurance, particularly if they are pre-paying all or most of the cost of a cruise or package deal.
Writing on Smartertravel.com, he warned that many holiday companies will impose substantial penalties on people forced to cancel their travel plans.
He also explained that holiday cancellation usually provides protection against financial loss in the event that the company goes bankrupt or a medical emergency prevents the policy holder from travelling.
"And the risk isn't just for you or your travel companion; you might have to cancel if a relative who isn't travelling falls ill or suffers an accident," he explained.
Meanwhile, the Air Transport Users Council has called on airlines to advertise the cost of their flights including all hidden taxes, fees and charges levied on passengers.
