Visa problems not covered by travel insurance

Visa problems not covered by travel insurance

Travel insurance policies will not cover those citizens refused entry into the US, according to an industry specialist.

InsureandGo has highlighted the lack of cover provided by traditional travel insurance policies, if holiday-makers are refused access to other countries because of visa issues.

This follows the introduction of a new online Visa Waiver Programme by the North American superpower, which enables tourists or business travellers to stay in the US for up to 90 days without obtaining a visa.

Perry Wilson, founder of InsureandGo, explained that British consumers are unaware of these changes and are assuming that they can obtain a visa onboard their flight.

He said: "Unfortunately, your travel insurance won't cover you for abandoning your holiday.

"If you have been refused a visa, it is not down to your insurance company to deal with that problem."

At the beginning of April, the US newspaper South Florida Sun-Sentinel recommended that consumers check the contents of their travel insurance before they go abroad.ADNFCR-1320-ID-19143164-ADNFCR
