New York and Singapore top foodie list
06 December 2009 19:50
Holidaymakers who fancy grabbing travel insurance and heading off for a food-filled gastro break could consider a trip to either New York or Singapore.
According to a new poll conducted by Lonely Planet among its staff and authors, the two cities are the best places to "gorge on food".
Director and strategist at the International Culinary Tourism Association Garry Taylor said that both cities offer visitors a "myriad of culinary delights".
He also noted that many people see trying out new experiences as one of the most important things about going on holiday and pointed out the role which food plays in overseas travel.
"Human beings are curious and at the core tend to want to explore the new and different. Every visitor will eat, not everyone will visit a museum or art gallery," he said.
Other places on the Lonely Planet list which people could be interested in visiting after getting travel insurance included Paris and Rome.
