Why not save money and add romance with a wedding abroad?
03 March 2010 06:36
It's a well-known fact that weddings in the UK are a costly affair. By the time you've factored in the dress, the venue, the cake and other necessities, you could be paying an average of £18,000, a pretty frightening figure for most of us.
In fact, lots of people are now putting off getting married until well into their thirties so that they can save up.
However, a great way to save money and make sure you get fabulous weather could be to get married abroad.
Thea Darricotte, editor of Conde Nast Brides magazine, recently pointed out that it could be better for the loved-up couple to say their vows on a sunny beach instead of in a draughty church, plus it will help those affected by the recent credit crunch.
And with a study by easier.com suggesting that getting married overseas could cost up to six times less than tying the knot here, it's no wonder that more and more people are jetting off to say their I Dos.
However, with so many possible destinations, where could you do it? Foreign exchange company Caxton FX teamed up with Lisa Burton from thebridalconsultant.co.uk to answer just that - and the result is a list sure to feature something to suit everyone.
If you fancy a luxury beach destination, Sri Lanka, the Caribbean, Thailand, Mauritius and the Bahamas are all possibilities.
However, looking a little closer to home, there is Italy, Greece, Turkey and Cyprus.
Lisa particularly recommended the latter for its relaxing atmosphere.
"Go for a luxury wedding at one of the stunning beachfront resorts, or for a more intimate setting, there are beautiful local tavernas and hidden villas offering a traditional paradise in natural surroundings," she suggested.
Meanwhile, for those who want somewhere completely different, how about Colorado?
The Centennial State was recently suggested to Brits as being the perfect wedding destination by its tourist organisation. It pointed out that Colorado offers beautiful, natural landscapes and a range of unique locations, as well as 300 days of sunshine a year.
And now that you've saved some money on your nuptials, why not save your guests some too by recommending group travel insurance cover? Check out the policies on our website for more information.
