Ryanair to increases charges
26 January 2009 10:21
Ryanair will increase its baggage and check-in charges on May 5th, it has been announced.
It is hoped by the company that this will encourage more holidaymakers to check-in online to cut down the length of queues at check-in desks.
Both the baggage and check-in charges will increase by €1, with tourists now having to pay check-in fees of €5 and baggage fees of €10.
These charges can be avoided by checking-in online or by not exceeding the 10kg baggage allowance limit.
When announcing the charge increases, head of communications for Ryanair Peter Sherrard said: "Online check-in is faster, more efficient and costs Ryanair less. There is no doubt that it is the future for air travel."
He added that 40 per cent of Ryanair's passengers currently use the online check-in service.
Although passengers are being encouraged to travel in a more lightweight manner, they shouldn't forget to take out the correct travel insurance for the baggage they are carrying.
