'Check travel insurance for thrill-seeking activities'
26 January 2009 08:45
Holidaymakers who are likely to participate in some extreme sports when on holiday this summer have been advised to check that these activities are covered in their travel insurance.
Data found in May this year by Opinium Research stated that 37 per cent of British travellers have taken part in daredevil activities while abroad, with popular thrills including bungee jumping and white-water rafting.
But, according to Moneysupermarket.com, travellers should check that extreme sports are covered in a travel insurance policy as not all travel insurance firms provide this cover.
And research from the price comparison site added that one in eight thrill seekers fail to take out any travel insurance at all.
Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at moneysupermarket.com, said: "Our research reveals the daredevil streak in many people. When on holiday, it seems they want to try the latest hair-raising experience instead of relaxing by the pool.
"Yet, with the thrill of jumping out of a plane or negotiating white-water rapids, some holidaymakers do not give a second thought to checking they are adequately covered, or - more shockingly - they take part knowing they are uninsured."
