Increase in activity holidays highlights healthy trend
British people are becoming more aware of the importance of staying fit and healthy and their holidays are starting to reflect this trend.
That's according to Association of Independent Tour Operators which says that it has witnessed an increase in the number of people opting for sports holidays.
Derek Moore, chairman of the association, said: "People are much more aware of health issues and the fact that our sedentary daily lives leave us open to potential heart attack and stroke problems in later life."
"We don't necessarily wish to sit on a beach sunning ourselves for 14 days in the 21st century", he added.
Travel insurance is even more important for those taking sports or activities holidays as the risk of being injured increases.
The National Statistics Social Trends 2008 survey shows that nearly 69 per cent of adults aged 16 or over in England took part in at least one type of active sport during the 12 month period prior to the study.
