Travel insurance 'vital' for sports holidays
Holidaymakers have been warned to seek insurance specific to sports they might play on their trip.
The advice from sporttours.co.uk is to ensure that travel insurance is tailor-made to the activities that travellers may pursue.
Steven Dacosta, director of the sports tours operator, said: "It is so important. Make sure that you travel with holiday insurance which covers you for the playing and practising of sport."
Mr Dacosta points out that some policies will also protect valuable equipment during sporting activities.
This is particularly important to the increasing number of Britons taking winter sports holidays. According to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office one in ten of UK travellers booked on skiing holiday become injured.
This figure could rise as those booking holidays involving winter sports has increased by a fifth.
Further statistics show that despite injury up to 31 per cent of holidaymakers do not take out an insurance policy that would cover their activity if an accident occurred.
