The Ferry Point Golf Course is expected to open in 2014

Golf enthusiasts might want to plan a trip to New York in 2014 to coincide with the opening of a new course in the Bronx.

There is not yet word on how much green fees will be at the Ferry Point Golf Course, although frugal holidaymakers could save money for a few extra holes by shopping around for the best sports travel insurance they can find.

Set in 222 acres of parkland near Whitestone Bridge, the golf course will be run by Donald Trump's company, which will construct a £6.5 million clubhouse as part of the deal.

The Trump Organisation already operates a number of concessions in New York, including the Central Park Carousel and the Wollman and Lasker ice skating rinks.

Mr Trump outlined his vision for the future of the city's newest golf course by revealing that he hopes to stage prestigious tournaments at the venue.

Adrian Benepe, New York City Department of Parks and Recreation commissioner, said the Trump Organisation has a strong record of running golf courses throughout America.
