Ski season 'gives holiday firms a challenge'
15 October 2009 20:53
Ski holiday firms may be in for a tough winter season due to the strong euro's continued rise against the pound, it has been said.
According to Crystal Ski, the next winter skiing season will "undoubtedly" prove to be a challenge for winter sports companies.
This is due to the ongoing impact of the recession, exchange rates, fuel costs and high fixed costs for ski holiday firms, the group said.
However, should holiday firms be forced to lower their winter ski holiday rates to try and stimulate demand, Brits could find that they are able to grab a skiing break bargain this year.
And to try and protect themselves from any further cost, Brits may find it wise to get winter sports travel insurance so that should they require medical treatment on a break, they are not forced to cover the entire cost themselves.
According to findings from the Post Office's third Ski Resort Report, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Slovenia could prove cheap destinations for Brits to head off to this winter.
