Skiers 'should consider all eventualities' with their ski insurance

British skiers are being urged to remember that injury is not the only danger on the slopes, and that winter travel insurance is essential for all manner of snow-based problems.

Equipment can go missing, avalanches can cause mayhem and pistes can be closed, while travel arrangements can also be affected by the snow, warns independent financial data collection firm Defaqto.

It added that checking travel insurance details is essential for anyone considering heading to the slopes, if only to set your mind at rest that you are covered for the variety of mishaps that can befall even the most experience winter sports enthusiast.

Mike Powell, principal consultant of general insurance at Defaqto, explained: "When selecting a travel policy to cover winter sports, remember that while personal liability, medical expenses and ski equipment cover are obviously important, in this time of disturbed weather patterns it's worth checking you have realistic cover for piste closure and travel to an alternative location."
