Winter travellers should double-check ski insurance
23 January 2009 17:38
Anyone planning to hit the snowy slopes this holiday should check their winter sports travel insurance first to check that they are fully covered, it has been claimed.
According to price comparison company moneysupermarket.com, travel insurance for sports and activities is vital for skiers and snowboarders, despite the fact that the weak pound has left many cash-strapped.
The website explained that broken bones, twisted knees and other accidental injuries are much more likely to beset skiers than people taking other sorts of holidays.
What's more, moneysupermarket.com noted that insurance covers the cost of any expensive winter sports equipment that is lost or stolen. Many travel insurance policies even compensate for a lack of snow, or too much.
Yet, despite the fact that proper insurance is so crucial to people taking part in dangerous sports, research conducted recently by esure revealed that one in five skiers would be willing to travel without cover.
As well as scrimping on their insurance, many skiers are also shortening their trips, choosing weekend breaks or heading to the Scottish slopes instead of those in Europe and North America in order to cut costs, the research revealed.
