Storm highlights importance of travel cover

Hundreds of Brits are facing delays at airports today as this year's worst storm yet sweeps through the country.

Airports across the UK have issued warnings that passengers will be facing severe delays and that some flights may even be cancelled.

Ferry companies have also told holidaymakers that they can expect their journeys to be postponed – with P&O Ferries cancelling travel to and from Portsmouth to Bilbao because of the forecast.

Paul Leinster, Environment Agency director of operations, said: "There will be a potent cocktail of strong winds, wave action and high tides tonight through until Wednesday.

"The gale force winds will combine with spring high tides to significantly elevate the water levels along the coast by up to 1.5 metres over normal levels, which is likely to cause some flooding."

Travel insurance is essential to holidaymakers who are planning to leave the country this month as severe weather conditions often lead to the cancellation of flights.ADNFCR-1320-ID-18501655-ADNFCR
