Travel insurance still needed on UK breaks
26 January 2009 09:09
Travellers that are contemplating taking their holiday within the UK this year have been warned that travel insurance is important as calamities can still happen on a holiday of this kind.
Sainsbury's Finance has warned that travel insurance is just as essential for a UK holiday as incidents such as travel delays and lost luggage can still occur.
Travel insurance may also prove beneficial in helping to transfer an injured person back to where they live, gain a person some money back if they become ill before their holiday and do not travel or if an internal flight is cancelled.
Research conducted by GfK NOP found that 15 per cent of holidaymakers have never been abroad and Sainsbury's state that millions of people will holiday across the UK this year.
Neil Laird, travel insurance manager, Sainsbury's Finance said: "British people often holiday in the UK, whether it be their main get-away, a short break or long weekend.
"It can be easy to overlook travel insurance if you are not going on a foreign break but many of the problems that you can encounter abroad can also happen here in the UK on holiday, so it is important to ensure that you have adequate cover."
