Travellers 'wary' of market conditions
More and more potential travellers are becoming concerned about market conditions, an industry figure has said.
Following the collapse of XL Leisure, holidaymakers are increasingly turning to package holidays or specialist travel insurance firms to ensure nothing goes wrong with their trip.
Research by Mintel found that over half of people who travelled abroad in June booked with a package holiday company.
Ben Pinsent, general manager of South Quay Travel and Leisure, said: "With things in the media like [the collapse of] XL airlines, people are very wary about what protection they have.
"It does mean that people are going back to the operators and travel agencies when previously they did things themselves."
A further investigation by Travel Weekly discovered that nearly 20 per cent of holidaymakers will in future book package deals, as they are confused by protection schemes and travel insurance.
A spokesman for Endsleigh Insurance yesterday (October 1st) said in a statement that not taking out adequate travel insurance was "crazy".
