World First helping dreams come true

Travel insurance specialist, World First Travel Insurance has teamed up with national independent charity, Dreams Come True, to help provide travel insurance to children and their families wishing to travel abroad as part of their child’s wish.
Dreams Come True is a national children’s charity which was founded in 1988. Its mission is to fulfil the dreams of children who are terminally or seriously ill by making their treasured dreams come true. The charity has helped more than 4,500 children and young adults over the last two decades who are suffering from serious and chronic conditions, as well as those who have life-threatening or terminal illness.
Each dream is unique, and many involve travelling abroad. Finding travel insurance companies to provide cover for people with medical conditions has previously caused problems for Dreams Come True. Often policies can be very expensive and some insurers are unable to provide cover, due to the medical conditions. This has meant that it has sometimes been difficult for the charity to fulfil the dreams of children.
Dreams Come True approached World First Travel Insurance to seek a quote for a child and family members wishing to travel to Menorca so their 13 year old son Jack could have the family holiday he had always dreamed of.
World First was able to provide a single trip policy for the family for just £55 for eight days.
Martin Rothwell, Managing Partner of World First Travel Insurance, spoke to Martin Plowman, Dreams Manager at Dreams Come True, and saw that by helping to provide travel insurance, World First would be helping the charity to ensure they were able to fulfill the dreams of the children they are working with.
World First now provide a 20% discount on every travel insurance policy for Dreams Come True and has committed to do all they can to make sure any child, no matter what their condition, is able to take out travel insurance cover.
Martin Rothwell said: “The work carried out by Dreams Come True is nothing short of amazing. Their sole focus is to make an ill child’s dream come true, and if we can help to make that possible then we will.
“I can see that by the very nature of their work it would sometimes be hard for Dreams Come True to get a travel insurance policy for a child, as cover for medical conditions can be expensive and occasionally refused, depending on the conditions. At World First we provide extensive medical cover so are able to negotiate good rates, I hope that with this, and an extra discount on top, we will make it possible for even more children to live their dreams.”
Dreams Come True is funded by the generosity of the public and corporate supporters through their fundraising efforts. The charity tries to fulfil help with any request that is made to them. Popular requests include experiencing the magic of Disney and swimming with dolphins. But any dream is shaped by a child's imagination and special needs, leading to a seemingly endless range of possibilities. Some of the dream requests the charity has recently fulfilled include having cows in the back garden, meeting long-lost relatives in Kenya and Jamaica, naming a police horse, and riding in a rally car.
Other dreams are less adventurous but just as special, for example, having a specially adapted bed which can improve quality of life, or a TV or music centre for a bedroom where the children spend a lot of their time. Dreams Come True has even had a request for a special children's tricycle enabling him to keep up with his friends playing outside.
Dreams Manager, Martin Plowman said: “As we are a charity we rely on the support of the public, our corporate supporters and businesses that can really make the difference when it comes to bringing a dream to life. With World First Travel Insurance now providing a discount and agreeing to work with us to try and find a policy for any child, I am sure we will be able to help even more children and their families travel abroad as part of their dreams.
“We are extremely grateful for the support shown by Martin and the team at World First and hope that we can now make even more dreams come true.”
