Baggage handlers at Stansted Airport could go on strike following a row over pay
Holidaymakers and business travellers planning to use Stansted Airport over Easter might consider taking out comprehensive
travel insurance as their flights could be disrupted or delayed by a potential baggage handlers' strike.
The GMB union has balloted 150 baggage handlers working for air cargo services company Swissport at the Essex airport, who claim their salaries were cut following shift changes.
They were asked to vote on a campaign of industrial action, which could include walkouts over Easter weekend. The results of the vote are expected to be announced on Thursday.
GMB union official Gary Pearce said: "We have offered several alternative shift patterns and working arrangements but the company refuses to listen.
"GMB members consider that Swissport is attempting to make savings at their expense and they are not willing to agree to this. If they vote for action this could result in disruption over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend."
