A list of the most stunning beaches in the world has been comiled by TripAdvisor
Baia do Sancho in Brazil has seen off competition from Puerto Rico, the Seychelles, Hawaii and Mexico to be crowned the best beach in the world.
The top spot was awarded to the Fernando de Noronha, an archipelago in Brazil with Unesco world heritage status, as part of the TripAdvisor Traveller' Choice Beaches Awards.
The beauty spot, which boasts white sands, vegetation-covered cliffs and exotic wildlife, beat second-place Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos, and Flamenco Beach in Culebra, Puerto Rico, which took the third spot thanks to its clear waters and golden sands.
The list was compiled by reviews and ratings on the site over the past year, with the UK also making it into the top 10.
The highest ranked beach on home shores was Rhossili Bay in the Gower, Wales, taking the ninth spot in the table. Th Welsh beach boasts beautiful scenery and a stunning coastline.
Meanwhile, the rest of the table was made up of Rabbit Beach, in Lampedusa, Italy (4th), followed by Whitehaven Beach, on Whitsunday Island, Australia; Playa de ses Illetes, in Formentera, Spain; and Anse Lazio, on Praslin Island, Seychelles (7th).
Eighth place went to Lanikai Beach, in Kailua, Hawaii, while Playa Norte, in Isla Mujeres, Mexico, was named the tenth best beach in the world.
Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor, pointed out that the descriptions of such pretty, awe-inspiring bays are likely to evoke thoughts of a dream getaway.
But while it's easy to get carried away when planning a holiday, tourists shouldn't forget to take out a
worldwide travel insurance policy.
Ms Messing said: "For those fed up with the long cold winter, there's really no better cure than an escape to one of these award-winning beaches.
"Even if you can't go to one of these stunning beaches soon, just looking at the photos will take you away for a moment, until you can plan a trip."
