A holidaymaker heading for Australia had his suitcase stolen on a train to the airport
A traveller setting off on holiday to Australia had his suitcase stolen before he had even left the country, it has been revealed.
The case, containing a laptop and his other possessions for the break, was stolen as its owner was travelling by train with his wife from Doncaster to Manchester Airport, said British Transport Police (BTP).
He put his luggage in the luggage racks of the 1.42pm train but discovered the suitcase was missing when he checked his belongings at Sheffield station.
Upsetting incidents like baggage theft come as a sharp reminder to travellers of the importance of taking out travel insurance cover.
Police have interviewed his fellow passengers and released "very clear" CCTV images of a woman they would like to identify in connection with the theft on October 18. Police downloaded hours of CCTV and circulated images on their intelligence systems.
Pc Wayne Heslop, of BTP, said: "I'd ask anyone who may know recognise the woman to come forward and help police with this investigation."
