Fog caused severe disruptions and a flight backlog at Auckland Airport

Travellers at Auckland Airport suffered severe disruptions after fog caused around 40 domestic flights and two international flights to be either cancelled or significantly delayed.

The disruptions at the New Zealand airport ran over two days, with most problems occurring on July 5. Airlines cleared the backlog by 9am on Friday 6 July, with only a few delays to regional arrivals remaining, but hundreds of passengers had their travel plans disrupted.

There were also delays due to fog at Dunedin, Hamilton and Christchurch airports.

Incidents such as these show the importance of booking adequate travel insurance to provide financial peace of mind in the event of any unplanned overnight stays or missed connections.
