A General view of Dubai International Airport's Duty Free shopping mall
With Dubai International's double-digit increase in passenger traffic continuing for the third month in a row, passengers travelling though the airport may be wise to go equipped with good quality travel insurance should their flight be delayed.
The March figures were released on Wednesday in the monthly traffic report for Dubai Airport, which is the fourth busiest worldwide for international travellers and freight.
In March 2011 there were 4,201,708 passengers travelling through the airport, but this has increased by 15.4% to 4,848,320 in March 2012, which is the third month running that the figure has risen above 4.5 million passengers.
This has boosted traffic in the first quarter of 2012 to 14,261,606, a16.1% increase compared to the same quarter in 2011.
Chief of Dubai Airports, Paul Griffiths, said: "New routes and additional frequencies are building on the magnetic attraction of Dubai's hub as a premier leisure and business destination and a convenient connecting point for global travellers.
"As growth continues to pick up in almost all markets, both traditional and new, the outlook for the second quarter is similarly positive."
