Dubai has been named the top holiday destination in the Middle East
Dubai could be the best luxury holiday destination for British travellers this year, after emerging as the top holiday spot in the Middle East.
The emirate won the award at this year's World Travel Awards. Dubai also received the best cruise port title during the event.
Holidaymakers may find it useful to take out a
travel insurance policy ahead of embarking on a trip to the luxury destination.
Aquaventure at Atlantis The Palm emerged as the leading tourist attraction in the Middle East, while the Burj Al Arab scooped the best hotel award.
Emirates picked up the best economy class airline award, but Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways was named the best carrier overall.
The award ceremony was held at the Armani Hotel Dubai on May 2.
Graham E Cooke, founder and president of the awards, said: "The Middle East was the perfect region to mark the start of the World Travel Awards 2011 Grand Tour, setting the bar for the rest of the world to raise the standards of excellence in travel and tourism."
Turkey will host the Europe leg of the programme in September.
