An expert has said that eco-friendly travel is becoming more popular among British holidaymakers.

Martin Couchman, deputy chief executive of the British Hospitality Association, said that a rise in "green tourism business wings" is encouraging an increasing number of travellers to plan their holidays with sustainability considerations in mind.

Environment-conscious travellers should also make sure that they have taken out a good travel insurance policy.

Tourist boards are making sustainability their main focus in order to meet the increasing demand for eco-friendly holiday packages, Mr Couchman said.

They are also taking measures to introduce eco-friendly business practices.

Mr Couchman said: "Some of it you can do yourself, some of it you need the involvement of the trust you're with."
