Dubai-based airline Emirates has announced plans to introduce an extra flight from Manchester to the United Arab Emirate, in a bid to cater to growing demand from customers.

The company intends to improve its Manchester-Dubai services by increasing the number of daily flights from two to three. This could also help boost the number of people taking out travel insurance.

According the airline, which runs the A380 super-jumbo, the third flight will be available from the beginning of May this year.

Emirates decided to provide the additional flight from Manchester to Dubai after Abu Dhabi-based airline Etihad announced similar plans.

Laurie Berryman, Emirates' vice president UK & Ireland, said: "With the launch of a third daily flight, we've got Manchester covered morning, noon and night, offering business and leisure travellers from the region an incredible choice of travel options to destinations across the globe."

Etihad's chief executive James Hogan said: "Etihad's Manchester service has been a key part of our network for five years and we are very excited to announce that we will soon offer 14 flights each week to Abu Dhabi.

"The frequency increase illustrates how Etihad has firmly established itself in the North West of England and that we are now the airline of choice for business and leisure travellers, whether flying to Abu Dhabi or transferring through to destinations in the east, such as Australia, Thailand and Japan."
