Air passengers were grounded after a power cut at a Philippines airport
Thousands of passengers were left stranded following a power outage at a Philippines airport.
Several flights to and from Iloilo Airport were cancelled on Tuesday, leaving passengers in Manila and Iloilo stuck after the power failure.
The incident stresses the value of taking out comprehensive
travel insurance, and holidaymakers will have been checking the small print of their policies after their travel plans were disrupted.
Joy Songsong, spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, said: "At least 18 flights - nine Iloilo-bound and nine Manila-bound - were cancelled Tuesday."
The power cut was caused by fire at the power plant of the Iloilo International Airport.
Songsong said the fire could have been caused by a short-circuit of the power plant's uninterrupted power supply.
