Want to keep costs down for your family holiday this summer? Then follow these top tips...

1. Shop around

Even if you've left it too late to bag that lower early-bird price, that doesn't mean there aren't bargains to be had when it comes to last-minute deals. Plenty of travel websites offer great value deals right the way through summer, so shop around and keep an eye on any newly-released packages.

2. Explore new places

Are all the well-known holiday spots booked out? Then it's time to get creative with your destination. If you're looking for a Mediterranean-style beach break, why not consider Bulgaria or Turkey? Or if a family trip to the Alps is more your thing, Slovenia offers much better value for money than France or Switzerland.

3. Be flexible

When it comes to getting the best deals, flexibility is key. Flying midweek or late at night can help you shave off some money from your bill. Even if you can't be flexible with dates due to work and other commitments, you can still be open to different destinations you wouldn't normally consider.

4. Drive

If flights are starting to look too pricey, why not consider four wheels instead? If you're travelling within Western Europe with kids, driving can be just as convenient as flying. Taking your own car means you can pack more essentials and also gives you the freedom to explore different places on the way!

5. Stay in the UK

If all else fails when finding a cheap foreign holiday, you can also find somewhere great to stay right here in the UK. From frondescent forest retreats (New Forest, Sherwood Forest) to beautiful beach resorts (Cornwall, North Wales), there's an awful lot to explore. So why not!

6. Get covered to avoid any unwanted costs

Whether you've bagged a last-minute trip to Mauritius or heading to a campsite in Margate, don't forget to get your family covered. At World First, we provided dedicated family travel insurance that'll give you peace of mind while you and your loved ones enjoy yourselves.
