Airports can be stressful places with children
Airports can be stressful places. But don't let the thought of marshalling your little ones through an airport put you off that overseas holiday you deserve! Here are our top tips to survive the airport with kids...
It might sound obvious but having your flight documents stowed in an easy-to-reach place will make a world of difference when it comes to getting through the airport. Check in online ahead of time and print out (or load to your phone) your boarding passes before leaving the house, saving yourself the stress of doing it on the day.
When travelling with children always aim to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare. Airports are busy places and you never know when you'll be held up. Even if you're flying at the quietest time of day, you'll be surprised just how long it can take to get through when you factor in security checks, toilet breaks and any last-minute shopping.
It might sound tempting to squeeze as much as you can into your hand luggage to cover every eventuality, but in reality, you should limit yourself to the basics. Don't get bogged down with too much baggage - just pack what you need, add some treats for the kids and travel light!
Most airports have kids play areas and these can be a great way to let your little ones blow off some steam and tire themselves out before boarding the plane. Do your research ahead of time so you know where these areas are located in the departure lounge and let them take advantage of all that soft-play fun!
These days airports are full of food and drink options catering for every type of traveller imaginable. Some of these restaurants will be perfect for families, so take advantage of airport dining before heading to the gate. And don't forget to pack snacks for the plane, either, because you never know when hunger will strike!
If you're travelling with your family, it's essential you get the right cover for you. At World First, we offer a dedicated travel insurance cover for families that'll give you peace of mind when heading on holiday with your loved ones.
