Thomson is to launch Dreamliner flights in July

Thomson Airways will operate the Dreamliner aircraft for the first time on July 8, it has been revealed.

Boeing's 787 model was grounded earlier in the year after smoke was spotted on two Dreamliner flights operated by a Japanese carrier. But following modification work on the world's 787 fleet, authorities gave the green light for carriers to use the plane and for deliveries to resume.

Thomson will begin Boeing 787 Dreamliner services for flights between Manchester and Orlando and Glasgow and Cancun in Mexico.

The airline previously had to scrap its Dreamliner flights scheduled for May and June and said it would be contacting customers due to travel on the plane between July 1 and 7 to tell them they would instead be travelling on Boeing 767 aircraft.

Such incidents are a reminder of how holiday plans can change, underscoring the importance of travel insurance for unforeseen circumstances.

Thomson, which is due to receive eight Dreamliners, is the UK launch customer for the plane.
