A Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Nigeria landed safely today after the pilot discovered a problem with the aircraft's landing gear, authorities said.
The pilot of a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Nigeria managed to land safely despite experiencing a pressure issue on one of the plane's tyres. There is some discrepancy over whether the pilot declared an emergency, with the airline insisted he did not although local officials disagreed.
Qatar Airways said that the pilot had noticed the issue with the plane's landing gear shortly after departing from Doha airport. The Airbus 330 was transporting 148 passengers and 14 crew but there were no reported injuries on arrival in Lagos, just after 1pm local time (12.00 GMT).
Passengers said they did not know about the problem until after the plane landed. Emergency workers and fire fighting equipment had been scrambled in case there were any complications but thankfully there were no issues other than the need for a replacement tyre, which photographs showed had come away from the landing gear. Any travellers awaiting the return journey may be thankful for their
travel insurance as they could well be in for a lengthy delay.
