Visitor interest in Kenya has reportedly surged thanks to the global buzz generated around last week's royal wedding.

Tourism in the east African nation has received a considerable boost since it came under the spotlight as the place where the newly married Duke and Duchess of Cambridge got engaged last year, reports news website AllAfrica.com.

Prince William, who popped the question to Kate Middleton while on a holiday in Kenya, was lavish in his praise of the destination, particularly for the anonymity it gave him.

He said after their engagement: "Africa's the perfect place to come. The locals haven't a clue who I am and I love that."

His endorsement may prompt more people to take out travel insurance and head to Kenya to enjoy its various holiday offerings, including adventure safaris.

It's not the first time Kenya has been witness to a royal announcement. In 1952, the Queen ascended to the throne while on a holiday in the country.
