Seven days of planned strike action could cause problems for passengers at Stansted Airport
Industrial action by ground staff in the GMB union is likely to affect passengers at Stansted Airport over the Queen's Jubilee weekend.
Employees of ground service company Swissport are planning seven days of strikes, starting between 5.30am on Wednesday and 5.30am on Thursday and continuing between 5.30am on Saturday until 5.30am on Monday May 28.
The action will then continue over the bank holiday weekend between 5.30am on Saturday June 2 until 5.30am on Wednesday June 6 and GMB organiser Gary Pearce insists they have tried to avoid strikes but talks broke down last Friday.
"GMB negotiators have been in talks to reach an agreement to resolve this issue since the agreed suspension of the strike action scheduled over Easter," he said.
The issue at the heart of the strike is new rosters, which the union feels will lead to reduced income for staff, but the action has the potential to cause passengers problems and makes having adequate travel insurance essential in the coming weeks.
