Passengers travelling on Vueling's new service between Cardiff and Barcelona have had to make alternative arrangements after the first flights were postponed due to the general strike in Spain.

The budget airline confirmed that its first flights between the two cities will now go ahead on Saturday, with the situation underscoring the importance of travel insurance cover.

The new Cardiff-Barcelona service was first unveiled last October, with the airline announcing it would operate three flights a week - on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It is the airline's first direct service to Barcelona from the UK.

At the beginning of the year Vueling announced that from June 22 it would operate three weekly flights from Cardiff to Alicante, Palma and Majorca.

The Welsh government welcomed the announcement, saying it helped to further establish business and tourism links with Spain.
