TAP Air Portugal pilots have called two four-day strikes

TAP Air Portugal pilots have called two four-day strikes

Two four-day strikes by pilots at TAP Air Portugal this month and in January could disrupt the travel plans of holidaymakers.

The news highlights the importance of having a good travel insurance policy in place to guard against unforeseen events.

Members of the Civil Aviation Pilots' Union decided to stage strikes from December 9 to 12 and January 3 to 6, after talks with Portugal's national airline failed.

TAP Air Portugal reported nearly 100,000 reservations for the December 9-12 period.

According to the union, which represents 718 of TAP Air Portugal's nearly 800 pilots, it wants its members to take part in the decision making process to privatise the government-run airline.

The union also wants the airline to fully comply with the rules of the labour contract.
