UK tourists travelling overseas spent 3% more in the first 11 months of 2012 than they did a year earlier
UK travellers abroad spent a total of £30.9 billion from January to November 2012, which was 3% more than they spent in the first 11 months of 2011. The Office for National Statistics also reported that UK residents made 3.37 million trips abroad in November 2012 and spent £1.86 billion.
This was up from the 3.32 million visits abroad made by UK residents in November 2011, when they spent a bit more than £1.8 billion. An increase during the autumn months of 2012 in the number of trips taken by UK residents overseas resulted in a total of 53.54 million visits abroad from January to November 2012. This was close to the total reached in the same period of 2011. Investing in annual travel insurance is a smart move for overseas travellers.
The ONS also reported an increase in the number of foreigners visiting the UK in November 2012, though they spent a bit less than they did in 2011. Foreign travellers made 2.46 million trips to the UK in November 2012, which was up from the 2.26 million registered in November 2011.
