Taking out travel insurance is just as vital as taking a suitcase when going on holiday, the British Insurance Brokers' Association has reminded travellers.

And insurance's importance is matched by how little it costs, said the association's technical and corporate affairs executive.

Graeme Trudgill said travel insurance was essential for going abroad but should not be ruled out for trips in the UK. He said cover is "very, very cheap. It is certainly very cheap for a UK trip."

Cover provided depends on the length of the trip and how far the destination but other factors included how much money the traveller will spend and the healthcare provided by the host country, said Mr Trudgill.
