Pop the question over the romantic Cliffs of Moher
29th February is nigh and tradition states it's the one day every four years where it's permissible for women to pop the question. But how can you set up the perfect proposal without your loved one sussing you out? Here are five of the most romantic locations that probably won't give the game away...
The fairy-tale city of Bruges might just be one of the most underrated destinations for a romantic weekend away. The 'Lake of Love', otherwise known as Minnewater, makes the perfect spot to seal your passion this leap-year, named after a young girl called Minna, whose starcrossed romance with a boy from a rival tribe led her to die from heartbreak. Legend has it that if you kiss your loved one on the bridge over the lake, your love will last forever.
A dramatic natural landscape in Southwestern Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher offer endless views of luscious rolling hills, expansive beaches and soaring cliffsides. Take a romantic stroll up to the cliff edge as the day begins to break and pop the question just as the sun begins to rise over the idyllic scenery. If you're lucky, the birds may even provide you with a sweet serenade.
The stunning city of Prague offers plenty of romantic spots to get down on one knee. Our favourite though, is the iconic Charles Bridge on the banks of the Vltava river. Rustically built in 15th century stone, this bridge is at its most magical come twilight when the tourists have dispersed and the city lights are dancing on the water. Choose your moment close to a busker or violinist to blag yourself some free background music and prepare for a proposal you'll be proud to recount for years to come.
This enchanting island can be found just off the Northwestern coast of mainland Scotland. Connected by a bridge, the Isle of Skye is renowned for its tranquil coast and azure waters. Trail around the Fairy Pools, and picnic on the banks down by the River Brittle. Climb up to Old Man of Storr and seal the deal with panoramic views of the Scottish seas and shore.
For the young at heart, what could be more romantic than proposing at the top of a Ferris wheel? Recreate your childhood fantasies by taking your date down to Santa Monica pier, running from candyfloss to coaster on a warm summer's evening, before popping the question as you swing high above the flashing lights.
