A Qantas airlines superjumbo had to make a sudden landing due to mid-air engine problems, according to the airline officials.

The UK-bound Airbus A380 was flying from Singapore to London when an oil pressure problem caused the flight crew to close one of the aircraft's four engines.

The plane was boarded with 258 passengers and 25 flight crew members. It is believed that one of the travellers was Stephen Fry - British actor, writer and comedian.

None of passengers suffered any injuries, a spokeswoman for Qantas confirmed.

Those who missed connecting flights may have been able to turn to the travel insurance policy to help with any associated costs.
