Vueling is to launch a new flight service from Cardiff Airport to Barcelona
Low-cost Spanish airline Vueling has announced that a new route between Cardiff and Barcelona is to be opened.
The thrice-weekly service will carry holidaymakers, who should take out good
travel insurance cover, from Cardiff Airport to Barcelona on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Alex Cruz, chief executive officer of Vueling, said the plans to launch the budget airline's first direct service from the UK to the Spanish city had "been on the agenda for some time".
Mr Cruz added: "Cardiff offers convenient transits and an efficient service so we anticipate the route will be popular for leisure travellers looking for convenient city breaks.
"There's also a high student population within easy reach, so overall we are expecting high load factors as passengers will maximise the options provided by our connections service."
Welcoming the latest news, a spokesman for Cardiff Airport said: "We continue to work hard on attracting more services."
