A leading expert on travel has recommended holiday makers book well in advance if they want to get a bargain.
With the UK currently experiencing a severe economic downturn, spending less on holidays is one way in which people are trying to save money.
Although it is often commonly thought that bargains can only be found in the last minute, Sharron Livingston, founder of the Travel Magazine, believes that you are more likely to save money by booking in advance.
Ms Livingston said: "Last minute, will these days, be more expensive. Book well in advance. This is true whether you are a DIY traveller or booking through an agent."
Travellers looking to save money would also be advised to shop around for travel insurance, with some companies offering cheaper premiums than others.
Statistics by the consumer research group Which? have revealed that 44 per cent of people still use traditional high street travel agents to book their holiday.
