Caribbean 'is a safe place to go'

Holidaymakers looking for a trip to sunnier climes could get favourable travel insurance quotes by going to a destination with a low crime rate.
According to the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), destinations such as the Caribbean are much safer than they used to be.
This, it said, is because authorities in countries including Antigua and Barbados have taken steps to clamp down on crime, as tourism is very valuable to their economies.
"It's safer than ever," said AITO press officer Ian Bradley.
"They have really tightened up with police and security."
Mr Bradley noted that the safety of visitors is also "paramount" in St Lucia, a destination that attracts lots of more affluent visitors.
This comes after British Airways reported that a growing number of people are making early reservations for trips to the Caribbean in 2010.
Consumer sales manager Simon Brooks said the airline is "really pleased" with the amount of interest the destination is receiving.
