VisitBritain cited statistics which show that enamoured holidaymakers took an incredible 57.9 million overnight trips with their loved ones in 2007.
Those jaunts clocked up an incredible £9.5 billion for the tourism industry, meaning couples have by far the largest share of the consumer market.
Commenting on the statistics, VisitBritain spokesman Elliot Frisby said that the variety of destinations on offer in the UK ensures that tourists are never left disappointed.
"Our cities are benefiting from regeneration programmes, contemporary attractions, new hotels and architecture," he noted.
"We benefit from centuries of history and heritage attractions as well as a unique culture with events, ceremonies and more quirky traditions, rooted in music, film and literature."
Official statistics show that British residents made 32.9 million overnight trips in the UK between January and April 2008.
